Gradius II X68000 GS MIDI Soundtracks - Roland Sound Canvas VA

My previous video for this one used GM mode on Sound Canvas VA, which obviously was not intended for Gradius II X68000 MIDI. So here's another one, this time using proper GS mode & SysEx setups with SC-55 mapping, as usual. Sound Canvas VA is essentially VST/software version of the SC-8820, so aside from emulation quirk, don't expect this to sound exactly the same as the actual SC-55 module. Some special note regarding the MIDI of this game: - When selecting SC-55 in the sound test config menu, the game will send 4 SysEx commands: first is the usual GS reset, then 2 messages to set the module's global chorus and reverb level to 127, and one messasge I still couldn't find out what it is for even after reading the entire manual. If anyone know what this rather unusual SysEx message does on any of the Sound Canvas models, comment away: F0 41 10 42 12 40 01 10 03 03 03 03 02 02 02 02 02 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 17 F7 My hunch is that it's drawing on the LCD screen (unlikely) or some shenaginan with custom instrument tones or name. Update: Mystery solved. This is a thing with SC-55 due to its limited polyphony (24 for 1st model, 28 for MKII model), the module will prioritize voice for each channel differently. The aforementioned SysEx simply reassigns the reserved voices evenly to the 10 channels, and this also explains why the soundtracks itself is only using the first 10 channels. This isn't really documented or apparently having any effect for SC-88 and later, probably due to its superior 64 polyphony support. - Part 1-9 have pitch bend range configured to max +24 semitones - Lots of pseudo-random panning, note modulations, and even pitch coarse change for certain drum instrument (so you'd get a Gong like sound from a Cymbal). - The entire soundtrack use only Part 1-10, with instrument patches and configuration update on the fly. - Some tracks like Now Loading! have bogus instrument bank selections, which will cause problematic playback on later Sound Canvas models. Look for Capital Tone Fallback for more details about this. Either use the very first SC-55 model (not MKII), or use a patch to imitate the fallback function (which Falcosoft MIDI Player provides). Instead of SAVIHost, I straight up used my DAW, which is hosting the Sound Canvas VA VST, to act as a MIDI device instead. This at least allows the SC's LCD display screen to update part's current note volume quickly. And as a bonus, I could also record the MIDI straight from the game itself for amusement. The only track missing from this collection is the Demo announcement one (it's like Now Loading!, but with different arrangement for the beginning section, and drawn out notes at the end). While I've seen videos of the store demo disk of Gradius II x68k around (and this track was included in Gradius II X68000 soundtracks disc), I have no luck in getting the hdm of the demo disk so far.
