This is the longplay of Rendering Ranger: R2, an action/platform and shmup game released in 1995 in Japan, exclusively for the Super Famicom. In the game we control control the Rendering Ranger, a special forces soldier tasked with defending the Earth and its remaining inhabitants from a devastating alien invasion. Our hero has several types of shots, which can be switched according to the situation, in addition to several types of Smart Bombs (attacks that can devastate the entire screen). The player can take five hits before losing a life but pits automatically make him lose a life. Weapons are found in floating orbs, and each color holds a different kind of gun. Items for recharging health and extra lives can also be found. Rendering Ranger R2 was developed by Manfred Trenz, legendary director of the Turrican series. Even though it is all in English, Rendering Ranger R2 was released exclusively in Japan. According to an interview with Trenz, he stated that the game was originally named as Targa, it featured hand-drawn graphics, and later it was changed to pre-rendered graphics following the success of Donkey Kong Country, hence the name change. By the time the game was finally finished, the only company interested in publishing it was the Japanese branch of Virgin Interactive. It's a good game and with a very futuristic theme. The graphics are very well done. There were plans to launch this game in the West under the name Targa, but the game was restricted to Japan.
